Our History
Our Story:
In 1888, the church originated as the Crewe Railway Mission, a non-denominational way of bringing the gospel to railwaymen. Formed by a small group concerned with the salvation of souls, the mission was never intended to become an independent church, but God had other plans for the movement. The resultant Gresty Road Evangelical Church continues to this day.
Peter Ollerhead, a local historian, has written a history of the church from its railway mission beginnings in 1888 up to 1978, which you can read in PDF form here.
The present day:
We are a different group now than we were in 1888, but still with the same aims - to follow our Lord together, encourage each other to keep living for Him, and tell more people in Crewe about Him, so that they can come to know Him too.
